Script&Go had the opportunity to interview the director and a site manager from the construction firm Eiffage Construction Bretagne

Part of the European firm Groupe Eiffage, on their digitisation. A director and site manager spoke of Eiffage’s use of Script&Go’s construction management solution, BatiScript. and explained how it has facilitated the digitisation of their construction management processes. Eiffage is a leading European construction firm and it’s subsidiaries carries out it’s activities across 5 domains : construction, public sector works, energy, metals and through it’s subsidiairies with public-private partnerships. The Group leans on it’s experience of having over 67000 collaborators and by 2013 had established a turnover of 14.3M euros, including 15% from abroad.

It is now clear contractors can digitise and benefit from a ‘paper-free’ mobile digital construction management solution. Script&Go invited Pascal Vaché, director and Mr Cardin, a site manager from Eiffage Construction Bretagne to answer a few questions on their digitisation and use of BatiScript.

Eiffage interview highlights

At the heart of the collaboration between Eiffage and Script&Go was the desire of the construction expert, in response it’s clients requirements, to become increasingly efficient in site management and notably quality control (issue and defect management or ‘snagging’ activities).

Vaché explained that their aim was to reduce the defect and issue processing time and that their objective was to aim for ‘zero defects,’ adding “BatiScript helps us to achieve that.”

He elaborated that there was a double target: to satisfy their clients and to improve their productivity. He explained it was also in their interest to do this as fast as possible to mobilise their resources, and so on. To achieve this they chose an efficient process and a software tool that allowed them to manage their sites through a new information system and to be in direct contact with their suppliers, architects and clients.

The Eiffage spokesmen explained they had the following core needs to :

  • process defects more efficiently
  • have a more efficient information management system
  • be more productive

When asked how they developed their relationship with Script&Go and it’s defect management software, Vaché replied as follows :

2012 : the Eiffage management team met Benoit Jeannin, Script&Go CEO, who was working on the development of a defect management application. Eiffage’s expertise and the reciprocal listening between the two firms allowed the site management needs of the public sector professionals to be addressed. Script&Go reevaluated it’s software and came up with an enhanced product usable throughout the construction lifecycle : BatiScript.

2014 : Eiffage used the first version of the software in the renovation of 750 student rooms at the associated with the Campus de Beaulieu (Beaulieu University Campus) for Crous Rennes Bretagne. Satisfied with it’s experience, the construction expert is now making it’s use of tablets standard practice.

3 key main advantages of BatiScript

The Eiffage spokesmen went on to explain 3 main advantages of BatiScript as follows :

  • Reduced time spent inputting data in the office
  • Improved communication between site teams
  • Cost optimisation / productivity gains

Improved communication / saved time :

They explained “our project teams and subcontractors agree that BatiScript is of real interest not only for it’s precision and clarity of information but also in terms of the speed of information sharing possible”. They appreciate having digital drawings in view and being able to consult defect photos for added precision. This reduces quality control errors.

Cost optimisation: They also explained that construction sites of main contractors are often significant and complex in terms of workload. To meet requirements, “Script&Go provided, configured and put in place 9 BatiScript Premium Licences, which allowed us to ensure efficient construction site management (60% of it’s activity).

BatiScript : a comprehensive solution

Eiffage explained that BatiScript is a comprehensive solution in line with the requirements of public sector construction professionals. It includes a defect management module for use during the pre-handover and delivery period. It also provides statistics associated with defect management, document management of all the necessary information associated with site management and facilitates the generation of meeting reports transmittable in real-time to project stakeholders on their digital devices (tablets, smartphones, PCs). They said “BatiScript defect management software fulfils all of our needs and that’s why we have deployed it through a number of our collaborators” and concluded “BatiScript has become an indispensable solution and we continue to use it daily for our defect management.”
